NEW YORK, NY – The women's volleyball team dropped a dramatic contest to Maritime College, in the season's final contest for both schools. The Macs end the 2009 campaign with a 3-14 record.
After dropping the first game 18-25, the Macs tied things up in the second with a 25-17 win. Yeshiva won the third game easily, 25-10, leaving them a game from their second win against the Privateers this season. However, Maritime took the 4th game by a narrow 25-23 margin, forcing a 5th and final deciding game. The first to 15 (win by two) would take the match.
The Macs looked as if they had the match sewn up when they had match point at 14-10. But the Privateers never gave up and rallied of 6 straight points to get the 16-14 victory in the final game. The Privateers ended their season at 4-17.
Abigail Smolensky and Dena Shayne led the team with 8 kills each, while Tzivya Block assisted 18 times in the match. Rena Rotter recorded 4 solo blocks and 23 digs for the Macs. Ariella Gindi led the team with 24 digs.
