Volleyball Holds on for 3-2 Victory Over Medgar Evers

Moriah Green Served the Game Winning Point in the 5th Set
NEW YORK, NY – What started out as a dominating performance by the Yeshiva women's volleyball team turned into a sprint to the finish, after Medgar Evers came back from a 2 set to zero deficit to force a fifth set. The Macs took the first two sets 25-16, 25-23 before dropping the next two 25-27 and 15-25. Yeshiva had full control in the 5th set, winning 15-10 and improving to 3-6 overall on the season. The 3 victories match last year's total and the team is only halfway through the season.

Yeshiva got out to early leads in both the first and second sets, although the second set came down to the wire as Medgar Evers mounted a comeback late in the set. However, the Macs held strong and took a commanding 2-0 lead and looked to be headed to a 3-0 victory.

Set 3 once again saw Yeshiva come out strong, but Medgar Evers didn't give up and came back from being down 20-14 to a tie score at 23-23. After volleying back and forth a few times, Rena Rotter came up with a one-handed block that gave Yeshiva the serve and a 25-24 advantage. However, the Macs couldn't close out their opponents, and Medgar Evers eventually won the set 27-25 forcing a fourth. The 4th set was won pretty easily by Medgar, forcing a fifth and final set.

After winning the coin toss, Yeshiva elected to serve and quickly went up 3-0. The Macs defense prevented Medgar from holding serve for 6 straight points and Yeshiva built a comfortable lead. After getting the ball back with 14 points on the board, Moriah Green served the game winning ball that was not returnable by Medgar Evers.

Green paced the Macs with 21 assists and 7 aces. Rena Rotter had a team-high 15 kills and 3 blocked shots while Ashley Ansel and Sarit Zukowsky had 9 defensive digs each.

The Macs will play again on Sunday when they travel to Old Westbury for a tri-match with Kean. The first game is scheduled for a 10AM start.
