NEW YORK, NY – The women's volleyball team came back from a 2-1 deficit to take the 4
th and 5
th sets and defeat the visiting Dolphins from Staten Island 3-2 (25-21, 15-25, 19-25, 26-24, 15-12) Thursday night. The Macs record improved to 3-8 while the Dolphins fell to 2-7 on the season.
The Macs never trailed in the first game, and held on for a 25-21 win to take the early 1 game to none lead over CSI. After dropping the next two and finding themselves down 21-9 in the 4
th set, the Maccabees found a spark in captain
Sarit Zukowsky, who rattled off 8 straight points to get Yeshiva back in the game21-18. After a quick side-out by the Macs, Yeshiva's
Moriah Green served for 2 more points to bring Yeshiva within 2 at 22-20. CSI looked as if they would take the set after getting their 24
th point on their next serve, but Yeshiva did not give up and forced CSI to play defense one more time if they wanted the win.
Yeshiva did not give CSI that chance, as
Kerrin Ast took over and served for the 5 points needed to overtake the Dolphins for the win. Her 5 service points capped off an amazing 17-3 run, pulling Yeshiva even with CSI at 2 games apiece. With new life, and all the momentum, the Macs took the deciding game 15-12, as Zukowsky recorded two kills for the final two Yeshiva points.
Zukowsky led the team with 15 points on 12 kills and 3 aces.
Ashley Ansel followed with 12 points on 10 kills and 2 aces, while
Jackie Berger had 10 points on 9 kills and an ace.
Moriah Green led the team in digs at 21 and also in assists with 23. Green and Zukowsky each had 3 aces to lead the way.
Yeshiva will be traveling to Sage College on Sunday for a Skyline tri-meet with Sage and St. Joseph's. The Macs take on Sage at noon, and St. Joseph's at 2PM.
