YONKERS, N.Y.— The Yeshiva men's soccer team lost a heartbreaker in the closing seconds on Tuesday evening, falling 2-1 to Maritime College in a critical Skyline Conference game at Tibbets Brook Park.
The loss leaves Yeshiva at 1-4-1 in the Skyline Conference (7-5-1 overall), while Maritime is now 4-2-1 in Skyline Conference play (8-6-1 overall).
The visiting Privateers scored the game winner with just under forty seconds remaining when Maritime's Taylor McFadzen headed in a shot from just in front of the net after receiving a perfect throw in by Tim Swinehart.
The early stages of the game was controlled by Yeshiva. In the first half, the Maccabees had the ball in the Maritime end of the field for a majority of the time. Maritime goalkeeper Karl Webber made nine saves in the contest, several of which were spectacular to keep Yeshiva off the board in the beginning.
With the score tied at 0-0 late in the first half, Yeshiva struck when
Agustin Cygiel headed in a perfectly placed corner kick by
Leon Aboudi at 41:39 to make the score 1-0.
In the second half, Maritime capitalized on a Maccabee miscue as the Privateers scored an own goal at 65:49 as a throw in by McFaedzen near the net was touched by Yeshiva before heading into the goal to make the score 1-1.
Both teams played evenly through the latter stages of the second half but Maritime's goal in the final seconds of the second half bailed them out in a game that seemed destined to go into overtime.
Yeshiva held a 17-11 edge on shots, including 11-5 in the first half.
Maor Feinstein made three saves for the Maccabees.
Yeshiva returns to the pitch on Thursday for a home contest against Sarah Lawrence College at Fairleigh Dickinson University Field at 8 p.m.
