Women's Volleyball Wins 3-0 over College at Old Westbury

NEW YORK, N.Y.— On senior night, the Yeshiva University women's volleyball team earned a 3-0 (25-14, 25-21, 25-7) win over Skyline Conference foe the College at Old Westbury in match held at the ARC Arena at Baruch College on Tuesday evening.
 
The win was the first of the season for the Maccabees who improve to 1-15 overall and 1-5 in Skyline Conference play. The College at Old Westbury is now 2-17 overall and 2-4 in the Skyline Conference.
 
Yeshiva never trailed in the first set. The Maccabees led 2-0 to start, before the visiting Panthers tied the score. Yeshiva then scampered out a 5-0 rally and led the rest of the way.
 
In the second set, the score was tied five times and the lead changes hands on three occasions. Down 11-8, the Maccabees raced off on a 5-0 spurt to take the lead and stay ahead the rest of the way en route to going ahead 2-0.
 
In the third set, Yeshiva was trailing 3-2 before scoring eight in a row to take a 10-3 lead. After Old Westbury scored one, the Maccabees scored another seven in a row to complete a 15-1 overall rally to put the match out of reach.
 
The Maccabees were led by Emily Rohan with seven kills, seven assists, five service aces and one dig. Elana Lesser contributed with six kills, three service aces and two digs, while Aliza Muller had five kills, 11 assists and three service aces. Marissa Almoslino added four kills and three service aces, while Shaina Hourizadeh had two service aces and seven digs.

Between the second and third sets, Yeshiva held a brief senior night ceremony, honoring the three seniors who were playing in their final regular season home games as Maccabees, including Carol Jacobson, Shana Wolfstein and Gabi Katz. All three have been long time members of the team, with Wolfstein and Katz having been on the team for three seasons and Jacobson for two.
 
Yeshiva returns to action on Thursday evening for a match at St. Joseph's-Long Island at 8 p.m.
