NORTON, Mass.— The Yeshiva women's basketball team opened its 2014-15 season on Saturday evening by losing to Suffolk University 96-49 in the opening round of the Cheryl Warren-Powers Memorial tournament hosted by Wheaton College.
With the loss Yeshiva, now 0-1 on the season, will play on Sunday at 1 p.m. in the consolation game of the tournament against Plymouth State University. Suffolk will play for the championship against Wheaton College at 3 p.m. Wheaton was a 67-48 winner over Plymouth State in the tournament's other contest.
On Saturday evening, Yeshiva was led by
Julia Owen with a double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds, while
Ester Kerzner had 13 points along with eight rebounds.
Rachel Mirsky added nine points and two blocks for the Maccabees.
Suffolk University held a 60-10 advantage on points in the paint and 29-8 on points off turnovers. Suffolk also outscored the Maccabees 29-7 on second chance points and 22-4 on fast break points.
