NEW YORK, N.Y.—The Yeshiva University women's basketball team was defeated in its 2014-15 home opener on Wednesday falling to York College 78-71 at the ARC Arena at Baruch College.
Yeshiva is now 0-3 this season, while York improves to 1-2.
Yeshiva was led by
Stephanie Greenberg and
Simee Rosner with double-doubles. Greenberg scored a game-high 27 points and had 12 rebounds, while Rosner had 16 points and 11 rebounds.
Ester Kerzner added 13 points and seven rebounds, while
Julia Owen had eight points, 14 rebounds and five assists.
The visiting Cardinals opened the game on a 5-0 run and led the entire first half. York was up by as much as 12 in the opening stanza leading 23-11 midway through the first half before the Maccabees closed out the half with a run to get the deficit to three before halftime as York led 36-33 at the break.
In the second half, Yeshiva got the lead down to one on three occasions before eventually taking the lead with 14:21 to go on a lay-up by Rosner.
The second half saw a total of eight lead changes and three ties. But York hit several clutch shots down the stretch en route to taking the lead for good in the closing moments.
York was led by Samantha Bond with 26 points, five rebounds, five assists and five steals.
Yeshiva is back in action on Tuesday for a game at Albertus Magnus College at 8 p.m.
