BROOKLYN, N.Y.— The Yeshiva women's basketball team beat Medgar Evers College 54-45 in the opening round of the annual Dr. Betty Shabazz tournament hosted by Medgar Evers College on Saturday evening.
The win was the first of the year for the Maccabees who are 1-4 on the season. Medgar Evers College is now 0-5. Yeshiva will now face the College of New Rochelle in the championship game on Sunday at 3 p.m. Medgar Evers will play at 1 p.m. in the consolation game against the College at Old Westbury. College of New Rochelle beat the College at Old Westbury 78-72 in the other opening round game on Saturday.
In the Maccabees' win, Yeshiva was led by
Stephanie Greenberg with 16 points.
Rachel Mirsky added 14 points, while
Ester Kerzner had 10 points.
Simee Rosner added 16 rebounds, while
Julia Owen grabbed 12 boards and had six assists
Medgar Evers College was led by Jade Venson with a double-double of 11 points and 18 rebounds.
