TEANECK, N.J.— The Yeshiva University men's soccer team powered past Berkeley College (NY) 5-2 in a non league game at Fairleigh Dickinson University Field on Tuesday evening.
With the win, the Maccabees assured themselves a record of over .500 as they improved to 9-7-1 with one regular season game remaining. Berkeley College wrapped up its season with a 5-12-2 overall record.
The visiting Knights scored the first goal of the game to take a 1-0 lead with just under nine minutes gone by on a strike by Harold Akawor.
The Maccabees though proceeded to score five unanswered goals, with two in the first half and three in the second half to take a 5-1 lead late in the contest. Berkeley scored the final goal of the night with 2:06 to go to edge closer, but the Maccabees had the game well in hand.
Aaron Braun scored Yeshiva's first goal of the night to tie the score at 1-1 at the 18:27 mark, before Yeshiva went ahead 2-1 on a goal by
Avi Baron at 25:11, when he took a
Leon Aboudi centering pass and knocked the ball in from right in front of the net. Aboudi had two assists on the night.
Itamar Ben David then recorded his third hat-trick of the season with three second half goals to put the game out of reach.
Yeshiva held a 22-9 advantage on shots.
Maor Feinstein made three saves for Yeshiva to earn his eighth win of the season.
Yeshiva wraps up its 2014 season on Friday with a game against the City College of New York at Tibbets Brook Park at noon.
