BOX SCORENEWBURGH, N.Y.— The Yeshiva men's tennis team lost for the first time this spring as the Maccabees were defeated 5-4 at the College of Mount Saint Mary (CMSM) in a Skyline Conference showdown on Sunday.
The loss also ended the streak of 9-0 wins by Yeshiva this spring as the Maccabees are now 7-1 (3-1 Skyline) this spring. The College of Mount Saint Mary is now 7-3 (2-0 Skyline).
Yeshiva lost two of three doubles matches to start. At No. 1 doubles,
Igal Mostkov and
Steven Jemal were 8-6 winners over Greg Jacob and Nate Dimmie from CMSM. At the No. 2 spot,
Dmitri Lebedyev and
Robby Rubin lost a tight one 8-6 against Mike Balokoz and Gavin McNulty.
Jeremy Seftel and
Charles Saka lost 8-5 at the No. 3 spot against Dan Witke and Kevin Ryan.
In singles play, Yeshiva and the host Blue Knights won three positions each. At No. 1, Mostkov was a 6-3, 6-2 winner against Jacob, while Lebedyev powered past Dimmie 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2. At the No. 3 position, Jemal won 6-4, 6-3 against Balokoz. In No. 4 singles, CMSM's Witke beat Seftel 6-2, 6-3, while McNulty beat Saka 6-3, 6-4 at the No. 5 position. At No. 6 it was Connor over Rubin 6-4, 6-3.
Yeshiva returns to action on Tuesday for a match against NYU-Poly at 8 p.m. at the Queens College indoor tennis complex.
