Men's Basketball Earns 90-66 Win over Maritime

THROGGS NECK, N.Y.— The Yeshiva men's basketball team got back in the win column on Saturday evening in a big way as the Maccabees beat Maritime College 90-66 for their tenth win of the season.
 
The win snaps a miniature one game losing streak and now gives Yeshiva seven wins in its last eight contests. The Maccabees are now 10-4 on the year and 7-2 in Skyline Conference play. Maritime College is now 5-11 overall and 3-6 in the Skyline Conference this season.
 
The Maccabees were led by Benjy Ritholtz with 25 points. He knocked down four three point field goals and had seven rebounds. Yisrael Feld, the reigning Skyline Conference Rookie of the Year, made his season debut and had 17 points off the bench. Shaje Weiss had 14 points in the win, while Shelby Rosenberg added 12 points and seven rebounds.
 
Maritime College was led by John Liccese with 12 points, and was the lone Privateer to score in double figures.
 
The game saw two ties, the first one with 14:22 to go in the first half with the score tied 10-10, the other with 13:54 to go and the score tied 12-12. Otherwise the Maccabees led the entire way.
 
With the score tied at 12, Yeshiva went on a 9-0 run to take a 21-12 lead with 9:20 to play. The Maccabees then increased its lead the rest of the half and led by twenty-one at halftime.  Leading 33-24 with four and a half minute to play, Yeshiva went on a 16-4 run to close out the half and went into the locker room up 49-28.
 
In the second half, Yeshiva opened on a 5-0 run to make it a combined 21-4 spurt. The score was 54-28 with 18:45 to go in the contest. The Maccabees never led by less than twenty-two points the rest of the game, and Yeshiva led by as much as thirty-two points in the second half.
 
The Maccabees held a 34-24 advantage on points in the paint and 16-6 on fast break points.
 
Yeshiva is back in action on Wednesday for a game at Sarah Lawrence College at 7 p.m.
