Men's Basketball Closes Out Regular Season with Win at Farmingdale State, Macs Go 14-10 Overall, 11-7 in Skyline

FARMINGDALE, N.Y.— The Yeshiva men's basketball team closed out its 2014-15 regular season with a win on Sunday afternoon and upped its current winning streak to three in a row as the Maccabees beat Farmingdale State 61-58.
 
The win for Yeshiva officially ends its regular season record at 14-10 overall and 11-7 in Skyline Conference play. Farmingdale State's season finished today and the Rams went 8-17 overall and 6-12 in the Skyline this year.
 
Yeshiva will now turn its attention forward to the 2015 Skyline Conference playoffs where the Maccabees, the No. 5 seed in the tournament, will play at No. 4 seed the College at Old Westbury on Tuesday at 8 p.m. If the Maccabees win that game, they will play on Thursday in the semifinal round against No. 1 seed Sage College. Should Yeshiva win that game as well, it will play for the championship on Sunday March 1 at the highest remaining seed.
 
In Sunday's win, Yeshiva was led by Joseph Ammar with 13 points and three steals, while Yisrael Feld scored 12 points in the win. Shaje Weiss scored 10 points and had three assists in the game.
 
Farmingdale State was led by Anthony Lanieri with 21 points and two blocked shots.
 
The contest saw 10 lead changes and one tie with eight of those lead changes coming in the second half. The game's only tie came in the final stanza as well.
 
Farmingdale State led for the first nineteen minutes of the first half. Yeshiva's only lead of the opening period came with 1:06 to go before halftime on a three pointer by Ammar to make the score 23-22 Yeshiva, which was the score at halftime.
 
After eight lead changes in the second half, the Maccabees took the lead for good with 5:48 to go on a lay-up by Weiss. Yeshiva eventually led by as much as six in the final moments of the game before it ended.
 
Both teams scored 34 points in the paint, while the host Rams held a slight 15-14 edge on second chance points. The Maccabees outscored Farmingdale State 24-14 on points off turnovers. Farmingdale State committed 20 turnovers in the game, compared to 15 for the Maccabees.
