NEW YORK, N.Y.— The Yeshiva University men's volleyball team opened its 2015 season with a 3-0 win over Medgar Evers College (25-11, 25-14, 25-13) at the Max Stern Athletic Center on Wednesday night.
The Maccabees, now 1-0 on the season, were led by
Benjamin Mann and
Kolya Miller with six kills each. Mann added three service aces and five digs, while Miller had four digs and a service ace.
Joseph Lipton chipped in with five kills and five service aces in the win.
Eliakim Gartenberg and
Joshua Teller had four kills each. Teller also added four service aces for Yeshiva.
Jorge Dabah had 18 assists, eight digs and two service aces in the won.
Medgar Evers, now 0-3 on the season, was led by Jamal Chance with seven kills, while Adiel Ramos Munoz had three kills and two service aces.
In the first set, with the score tied 1-1, the Maccabees raced off nine straight points to take a 10-1 lead, and win. In the second set, Yeshiva trailed 7-5 before scoring five in a row to go up 10-7, and the Maccabees led the rest of the set. In set three, the Maccabees were down 8-7 before scoring five in a row to go up 12-8, and Yeshiva led the rest of the way. The Maccabees were up 18-13 later and scored the final seven points of the set to win it and sweep the match.
Yeshiva is back in action on Thursday for a match at Lehman College at 8 p.m.
