Women's Basketball Fights Hard in Loss to Old Westbury

NEW YORK, N.Y.— The Yeshiva University women's basketball team was defeated by the College at Old Westbury 84-58 in a game at the ARC Arena at Baruch College Sunday afternoon.
 
The loss leaves Yeshiva at 3-13 this season, while Old Westbury is now 10-11 overall.
 
The Maccabees were led by Stephanie Greenberg with a solid all-around game of 19 points, five rebounds, five assists and four steals. Julia Owen had 11 points and seven rebounds, while Simee Rosner added eight points, 10 rebounds and three blocked shots. Rachel Mirsky had eight points, four rebounds and two blocked shots.
 
Old Westbury was led by Jasmine Robinson with 23 points on 9-for-13 shooting with four steals and three assists. Nikki Alexander added a double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds off the bench.
 
The Maccabees fought hard and led on several occasions early in the game. After the visiting Panthers took a lead and went up 21-14 midway through the first half, Yeshiva roared back with an 11-2 run to claim a 25-23 lead with 7:46 to go.
 
Old Westbury though used a 17-0 run after that to retake the lead and draw a comfortable distance with 3:28 before halftime as the Panthers led 40-25.
 
Old Westbury maintained a double-digit lead the rest of the game and led 47-28 at halftime. Then in the second half, Old Westbury led by as much as thirty late in the stanza as the Panthers were up 84-54 with just over two minutes to go.
 
Both teams scored 17 points off turnovers. Yeshiva held a 19-14 edge on second chance points, while Old Westbury outscored Yeshiva 28-5 on points off the bench.
 
Yeshiva returns to action on Tuesday for a game at Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (HVIAC) foe the College of New Rochelle at 8 p.m. A win could give Yeshiva the inside track to making the HVIAC playoffs.
