BRONXVILLE, N.Y.— The Yeshiva men's volleyball team closed out the day by defeating Sarah Lawrence College 3-0 (25-7, 25-10, 25-12) for its first Skyline Conference win of the season on a day the Maccabees split a pair of matches at a Skyline Conference multi-match. Yeshiva was defeated by the College of Mount Saint Vincent (CMSV) 3-0 (12-25, 16-25, 12-25) in the other contest.
With the split, Yeshiva is now 2-9 overall this season and 1-5 in Skyline Conference play.
In the win over the host Gryphons, the Maccabees never trailed in any set. The only time Yeshiva did not lead was when the score was tied 1-1 in the second set. Otherwise, Yeshiva had the lead throughout.
In the first set, the Maccabees scored the first seven points and led 7-0. Sarah Lawrence was down 12-6 before Yeshiva raced off thirteen of the last fourteen points to win 25-7.
In the second set, after Sarah Lawrence tied the score 1-1, the Maccabees scored the next two points to take a 3-1 lead and never trail again. With the score 6-4 in favor of Yeshiva, the Maccabees scored seven in a row to take a 13-4 lead, and Yeshiva coasted the rest of the way.
Then in the third set, the Maccabees finished off the sweep by scoring the first six points of the set to lead 6-0. After Sarah Lawrence got on the board, the Maccabees scored three more to make the score 9-1 en route to the win.
The Maccabees were led by
Joseph Lipton with eight kills and seven digs, while
Kolya Miller and
Eliakim Gartenberg had five kills each.
Mishael Miller had 11 digs, while
Jorge Dabah had three kills, 18 assists, seven service aces, four digs and two blocks.
Earlier in the day, in the lost to CMSV, Lipton,
Tuvia Marks and
Benjamin Mann had three kills each. Gartenberg had four blocks, while
Jonathan Goldstein had nine assists and a service ace.
Yeshiva is back in action on Tuesday for a home match against Ramapo College at 8 p.m.
