NEW YORK, N.Y.— The Yeshiva University men's volleyball team cruised past Sarah Lawrence College 3-0 (25-11, 25-17, 25-17) to highlight its day at a Skyline Conference multi-match on Sunday afternoon at the Max Stern Athletic Center. Overall Yeshiva went 1-1 as the Maccabees were defeated earlier in the day by Sage College 3-1 (26-24, 17-25, 17-25, 21-25).
With the two match split, Yeshiva is now 3-10 overall this season and 2-6 in Skyline Conference play.
In the win over Sarah Lawrence, the Maccabees only trailed one time, and that was in the second set when the visiting Gryphons led 1-0 to start it. Otherwise, with the exception of six ties early in the sets (four in the second set and two in the third set), Yeshiva led throughout.
In the first set, Yeshiva led start to finish. The Maccabees opened play with a 4-0 rally. Then with the score 5-3, the Maccabees scampered off eight in a row to lead 13-3, en route to the set one victory.
In the second set, Yeshiva broke a 6-6 tie by outscoring Sarah Lawrence 7-2 to take a 13-8 lead, and the Maccabees never looked back.
In the third set, the Maccabees broke a 2-2 tie with three straight points to lead 5-2. From there, the Maccabees never led by less than two points.
In the victory over the Gryphons,
Tuvia Marks had a brilliant match with 13 kills (no errors) on 24 attacks for a .542 attack percentage. Meanwhile
Joseph Lipton had seven kills, 12 assists and five digs.
Jonathan Shedlo added seven kills, while
David Moradi added four kills and five digs.
Mishael Miller had a match-high 16 digs, while
Jonathan Goldstein had 26 assists, three service aces and seven digs.
Earlier in the day against Sage,
Benjamin Mann led the team with 11 kills and seven digs.
Eliakim Gartenberg had seven kills, while
Kolya Miller had 10 kills and five digs. Marks added eight kills and three block assists, while Lipton had six kills and 16 digs.
Yeshiva is back in action on Tuesday for a match at home against Webb Institute at 8 p.m.
