Yeshiva Baseball Opens 2015 Season with Two Losses to College of Mount Saint Vincent

BROOKLYN, N.Y.— The Yeshiva baseball team opened its 2015 season on Friday morning by falling in a pair of games against the College of Mount Saint Vincent (CMSV) at MCU Park (home of the Brooklyn Cyclones) on Friday morning. The Maccabees lost the first game 12-2 and the second game 11-0.
 
In the first game, the host Dolphins scored three runs in the bottom of the first to lead 3-0 after one inning. CMSV then scored another run in the second and two more in the third to lead 6-0 after three innings.
 
The Maccabees got on the board in the top of the fourth when Rephael Rosenberg and Jakob Finkel scored on an errant throw by the CMSV pitcher during a stolen base attempt by Finkel.
 
Those were the only two runs Yeshiva would score in game one as the Dolphins added two more runs in the fifth and three in the sixth to lead 11-2. Then CMSV added a final run in the bottom of the seventh to take a 10-run lead and win the game.
 
Yeshiva was led in the first game by Elan Paul and Chaim Rosenberg who were 1-for-2 with a double each.


Jonathan Gardner suffered the game one loss after pitching 6.2 innings and allowing 12 runs (six earned) on 13 hits. He struck out four batters and walked two.
 
CMSV had 13 hits in the opener and had two each by Keith Schroecher, Craig Weber, Joseph Senisi and Casey Surdi.
 
Robert Negron picked up the win after going 7.0 innings and allowing two runs on two hits.
 
In the second game, CMSV scored two runs in the first, another two in the second and three in the third to lead 7-0 after three innings. After a scoreless fourth, the Dolphins added two in the fifth and two in the sixth to lead 11-0 after six.
 
Yeshiva had three hits in the nightcap, as the Maccabees got one single each by Paul, Shmuli Goldis and Joseph Miller.
 
CMSV had eight hits, with two coming off the bat of Weber Senisi.
 
Benjy Blumenthal suffered the loss after going 3.0 innings and allowing seven runs on seven hits and striking out three. Jakob Finkel and Jacob Henry pitched two innings each in relief allowing two runs each, none of which were earned.
 
Evan Brown picked up the game two win for CMSV after going 7.0 innings and allowing three hits and striking out four.
 
Yeshiva returns to action on Wednesday for a game at the College of Staten Island at 8 p.m.
