BRONX, N.Y.— The Yeshiva softball team was swept in a doubleheader by Lehman College on Monday afternoon, losing the first game 7-4 and the second game 21-4.
The losses leave Yeshiva at 0-6 overall this season, while Lehman is 2-0 now.
In the first game, the Maccabees were led by
Kayla Applebaum who was 2-for-4 with a double and a run, while
Rachel Mirsky went 1-for-3 with a solo homerun.
Eliana Levy went 1-for-3 with a double, while
Simee Rosner went 1-for-3 with a triple and two runs batted in.
Lehman was led by Kyala Cruz who was 2-for-3 with two runs.
The host Lightning scored four runs in the bottom of the first to lead 4-0 after one inning. Yeshiva scored in the bottom of the first to make the score 4-1, before Lehman scored another run in the bottom of the second to take a 5-1 lead. Yeshiva scored two runs in the top of the fourth on a bases clearing triple by Rosner, then the Maccabees scored again in the top of the fifth on Mirsky's homerun, and the score was 5-4 after five innings. But Yeshiva would not score again, while Lehman added two more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to extended its lead to three and win by that.
Erin Potasnick suffered the game one loss after going 6.0 innings and allowing seven runs (four earned) on four hits, while striking out three.
In the second game, Yeshiva had two hits, both off the bat of Levy who was 2-for-3 with a double, a run and a run batted in, while Applebaum and Potasnick added a run batted in each.
Ashley Williams led Lehman in game two by going 2-for-5 with a double, two runs and six runs batted in.
Lehman scored five times in the bottom of the first to lead 5-0 after one inning. The Maccabees got a run in the top of the second and two more in the top of the third to make the score 5-3. But Lehman scored fourteen times in the bottom of the third to lead 19-3 after three innings, en route to winning.
Mirsky suffered the game two loss after going 4.0 innings and allowing 21 runs (13 earned) on 10 hits with one strikeout.
Yeshiva is back in action on Friday for a doubleheader at University of Valley Forge starting at 9:30 a.m.
