BRONX, N.Y.— The Yeshiva University softball team made school history on Sunday evening as the Maccabees won their first game as an NCAA program, by winning game one of a doubleheader against the University of Valley Forge 10-1. In game two, Yeshiva won again, beating the Patriots 15-7 at Murphy Field on the campus of Fordham University.
Yeshiva is now 2-6 overall this season. Valley Forge is now 0-4.
In the first game,
Rachel Mirsky led the way by going 2-for-3 with a double, a run and two runs batted in. She also pitched 5.0 innings and allowed one run on two hits, while striking out seven en route to earning the win. Meanwhile,
Merav Saden Barach went 1-for-1 with a run and two runs batted in.
Rachel Siegel went 1-for-2 with two runs and a run batted in.
Kayla Applebaum went 1-for-3 with a run, with
Lieba Swartz-Brownstein went 1-for-2 with a run and a run batted in.
University of Valley Forge had one hit each by Naomi Thompson and Samantha Reed.
In game two, Mirsky went 2-for-3 with two doubles, three runs and three runs batted in. Applebaum was 2-for-2 with a run and a run batted in, while Swartz-Brownstein was 1-for-3 with a triple and two runs batted in.
Leah Ben-Zvi had one at-bat, a pinch hit in the bottom of the fourth, and ripped an inside the park home run down the right field line.
University of Valley Forge's Amanda McGinness led the Patriots by going 3-for-4 with a double and two runs batted in.
Erin Potasnick earned the game two win by going 5.0 innings and allowing seven runs (five earned) on nine hits, while striking out three.
