BRONXVILLE, N.Y.— The Yeshiva softball team, playing for the first time since March 29, were victims of a heartbreaker on Tuesday evening as the Maccabees lost to Sarah Lawrence College 7-6 in walk-off fashion in a game that was halted after the sixth inning due to darkness.
Yeshiva is now 2-7 on the year, while Sarah Lawrence College is now 1-18 overall this season.
The host Gryphons scored the game winner with two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning on a single up the middle by Kamaron McNair that scored Em Hammett from second base.
Yeshiva pounded out seven hits and was led by
Hannah Dubin who was 2-for-3 with a double and a run.
Merav Saden Barach and
Rachel Mirsky both went 1-for-2 with a double each. Saden Barach scored twice and had a run batted in, while Mirsky scored once and drove in a pair of runs.
Erin Potasnick went 1-for-3 with a solo homerun.
The Maccabees started the game by scoring two runs in the top of the first inning, before the Gryphons countered with a pair of runs of their own to tie the score. Yeshiva scored again in the second inning, but Sarah Lawrence matched it with a run in the bottom half, and the score was 3-3 after two innings of play. The Maccabees scored a run in the top of the third and two in the top of the fourth to lead 6-3 after three and a half innings. Sarah Lawrence tied the score in the bottom of the fourth with three runs, before scoring the winning run in the bottom of the sixth.
Mirsky suffered the loss in the circle. She pitched 5.2 innings and allowed seven runs (two earned) on six hits with two strikeouts.
Yeshiva is back in action on Friday for a doubleheader at New Jersey City University at 11 a.m.
