Baseball Loses Two Against St. Joseph's-Long Island

RIVERDALE, N.Y.— The Yeshiva baseball team lost both games of a doubleheader on Friday, losing to St. Joseph's-Long Island (SJC) 15-1 and 11-0.

With the losses, Yeshiva fell to 0-17 overall and the Maccabees end their 2015 Skyline Conference schedule with an 0-14 mark. SJC improved to 18-12 overall and 13-1 in Skyline Conference play.

In the second game of the doubleheader, SJC starting pitcher Josh Outsen tossed a perfect game. He faced the minimum 21 batters in the seven inning affair and never allowed a base runner. He struck out 12 batters in the process.

Yeshiva appeared to get its first hit of the contest in the bottom of the sixth inning when, with two outs, Benjamin Barman ripped a fastball through the right side of the infield. But with the wind blowing in from right field and the right fielder playing shallow, the Golden Eagles' right fielder picked the ball up and fired it to first base to get the out and keep the perfect game intact.

Yeshiva starting pitcher Jacob Henry suffered the game two loss after going 2.0 innings and allowing eight runs (seven earned) on six hits.

In game one, SJC scored four runs in the top of the first and another four in the top of the second to take an 8-0 lead after the second inning. The Golden Eagles scored one run in the top of the third, fifth and sixth to take an 11-0 lead after five and a half innings. The Maccabees scored their run in the bottom of the sixth when a double by Zachary Perl scored Jakob Finkel. The Golden Eagles then answered with four more runs in the top of the seventh to take a 15-1 lead and win the game.

Elan Paul led the team with two hits in the opener, while Perl, Barman and Samuel Rhodes had one hit each.

SJC was led in the opener by Anthony Bonilla who was 3-for-3 with a double, three runs, while Joseph Calabrese was 2-for-2 with a run and two runs batted in.

Tani Pollack suffered the game one loss after going 5.0 innings and allowing 10 runs (seven earned) on seven hits.

Yeshiva's next opponent is Vaughn College for a doubleheader on Sunday at noon at Van Cortlandt Park.
