Box Score 2 ALBANY, N.Y. – The Yeshiva University women's volleyball team dropped a pair of matches in a Skyline Conference Tri-Match held at the Sage Colleges on Sunday afternoon. The Maccabees fell to the Panthers of Purchase College in straight sets and were then defeated by the host Gators, 3-0.
In the match against Purchase, set scores were 25-13, 25-18, and 25-13. In the second set, the Maccabees scored five unanswered points, highlighted by back-to-back service aces from senior libero
Shaina Hourizadeh to put Yeshiva on top 12-9. Later in the set, junior defensive specialist
Yael Green scored an ace to extend the Macabees' advantage to 17-15. The Panthers would respond by scoring 10 of the set's last 11 points, to go up 2-0 in the match. Purchase went on to sweep Yeshiva.
For the match, senior middle blocker
Gavriela Colton produced five kills and three digs, while Hourizadeh added three kills, just as many aces, five assists, and seven digs. Sophomore middle blocker
Sarah Rowan produced four kills and nine digs, while Green and junior outside hitter
Ilana Leggiere each scored two aces.
In the match against Sage, set scores were 25-6, 25-6, and 25-13. Junior outside hitter
Emily Neckonoff produced two kills and three digs, while Colton recorded two blocks. Hourizadeh helped anchor the defense with six digs.
The Maccabees will be back in action on Thursday, October 27, for a Skyline Conference match against Old Westbury, at Baruch College. The match will begin at 7:00 p.m. It will be senior night as Yeshiva's graduating women's volleyball student-athletes will be honored with a ceremony prior to the start of the contest.
