NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Yeshiva University women's soccer team earned its first win of the season, knocking off the University of Valley Forge by a score of 2-0, on Randall's Island on Thursday evening. The heavy rain and strong winds did not slow the Maccabees down.
"It was a great team win," Yeshiva head coach Gabe Haber said. "Everyone did their job with great effort and execution. I am really proud of my team."
Sophomore forward
Eliana Tuchman scored both goals for the Maccabees. Her first goal came in the opening half, as she was able to launch the ball through the rain, past the goalkeeper, and into the back of the net to give the home team a 1-0 advantage. Junior defender
Liorah Rubinstein was credited with the assist.
Tuchman's second tally of the evening came in the 64
th minute, as she received the pass from freshman midfielder
Sharon Alfandary and guided the ball into the cage to give the Maccabees insurance.
For the match, Yeshiva outshot Valley Forge, 8-6, and had the edge in corner kicks, 3-2. Freshman goalkeeper
Gabriella Chutter stopped all three shots she faced to earn the first shutout of her collegiate career.
The Maccabees will conclude the season, on Sunday, with a non-conference match against Pratt Institute. The match will take place on Randall's Island Field 91, beginning at 11:00 a.m.
