TEANECK, N.J. – The Yeshiva University men's soccer team earned a convincing win over the City College of New York, 9-2, at Votee Park on Sunday evening. Yeshiva scored eight out of its nine goals in the opening half.
Leading the way for the Maccabees (5-11-1) was sophomore forward
Albert Dichy, who scored three goals and added two assists. Senior forward
Itamar Ben David and freshman forward
Netanel Silberman each scored two goals, with the latter recording two assists.
Yeshiva struck first less than four minutes into the match, as sophomore forward
Julian Ribak forced a turnover and shot the ball into the net from inside the box for his first goal of the season. After CCNY (7-10-1) tied it up, Ben David scored his first of two goals to give the home team the lead for good, in the 11
th minute. That would begin a stretch of seven unanswered goals scored by the Blue and White.
A highlight in Yeshiva's surge was in the 37
th minute, when sophomore forward
Eli Richards received a rebound off a shot by Ribak that bounced off of the goalkeeper and back to Richards, who propelled the ball into the net from the left wing for his first goal of his collegiate career.
Junior
Matan Meloul played in goal for the first time in his collegiate career and made seven saves to earn the win.
For the contest, Yeshiva's defense was able to withstand eight corner kicks by CCNY. The Maccabees had the edge in shots, 22-18.
YU will be back in action on Friday, for a non-conference match against Baruch at Votee Park, beginning at 12:00 p.m.
