EDGEWATER, N.J. - The Yeshiva University men's tennis team picked up its first victory of the season, 8-1 over Baruch, at the Binghamton Racquet Club on Tuesday evening. Yeshiva now bumps its record to 1-1, while Baruch starts the season off 0-1.
The Maccabees won all three doubles matches and earned wins in five of six singles matches.
The contest started off with senior
Dmitri Lebedyev and freshman
Mikey Ozery earning the win at #2 doubles, 8-2. Sophomore
Charlie Friedman and junior
Eitan Rudansky followed with a win at #3 doubles, 8-4, while junior
David Papis Elon and classmate
Eric Cohen capped off doubles play with an 8-5 victory at #1 doubles.
Lebedyev opened up the singles competition with a victory at #2 singles, 6-0, and 6-2. Senior
Charles Saka cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 win at #6 singles, while Cohen won at #4 singles, 6-3, 6-4. Elon earned a tiebreaking win at #1 singles, 6-2, 4-6 (10-5) while Ozery won a tight #3 singles match, 6-2, 7-6 (7).
Yeshiva will return to the Binghamton Racquet Club on Sunday, for a non-conference match against defending CUNYAC champion Hunter College. First serve is slated for 2:00 p.m.
