EDGEWATER, N.J. – The Yeshiva University men's tennis team knocked off #4 Purchase College, 5-0, in the semifinal round of the Skyline Conference Championships, at the Binghamton Racquet Club on Wednesday night. As a result, the Maccabees have earned a berth in the Skyline Conference championship match for the third year in a row.
The defending two-time Skyline champions will host #3 Farmingdale State on Sunday. The Rams earned an upset win over #2 Mount Saint Mary's College, 5-3, earlier in the evening.
Yeshiva (12-3) won all three of its doubles contests. Junior
David Papis Elon and senior
Dmitri Lebedyev teamed up to win at #1 doubles, 8-4. In second doubles, senior
Steven Jemal and junior
Adam Wannon won by a score of 8-3, while freshman
Mikey Ozery and junior
Eitan Rudansky cruised to victory at #3 doubles, 8-1.
In singles competition, Ozery won at #3 singles, 6-0 and 6-1. Freshman
Charlie Friedman clinched Yeshiva's semifinal victory by winning his fifth singles flight, 6-0 and 6-1.
Yeshiva had the lead in all of the unfinished matches. Papis Elon was winning his first singles contest, 6-0 and 3-3, while Lebedyev had the edge at #2 singles, 6-4 and 3-0.
Jemal had the lead in his #4 singles flight, 6-0 and 2-1, while senior
Charles Saka had the advantage at #6 singles, 6-0 and 5-0.
