NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Yeshiva University women's volleyball team suffered a Skyline Conference loss to Mount Saint Mary College, 3-0, on the campus of John Jay College on Tuesday evening. Set scores were 25-10, 25-11, and 25-12.
The Maccabees (1-12, 1-7 Skyline) were led by senior libero
Dalia Sieger, who led all players with 26 digs. She also added two kills on the attack.
The Knights (12-17, 5-3 Skyline) led for the entirety of the first game. In the second set, junior middle blocker
Abigail Epstein and classmate
Ilana Leggiere each produced a kill during Yeshiva's 4-0 run that tied the match up, at 6-6. Mount Saint Mary then went on an 8-0 run to retake control of the set and never looked back.
In the third game, Leggiere scored an ace to give the Maccabees their first lead of the match, 7-6. Later in the game, senior setter
Yael Ghelman earned a service ace of her own, to cap off a 3-0 run, giving Yeshiva an 11-9 advantage. The Knights responded by scoring 15 unanswered points to take a commanding 24-11 lead. Mount Saint Mary went on to win the set, 25-12, and the match, 3-0.
For the evening, Ghelman led the team with six assists and had just as many digs. Leggiere anchored the defense with five digs and slammed home a kill on the attack. Epstein produced three kills and a block, while senior setter
Esther Alexander had one kill, two assists, and two digs. Senior outside hitter
Batya Schreier had a kill and a dig, while classmate
Emily Neckonoff chipped in on defense with a pair of digs of her own.
Yeshiva will hit the road on Thursday for a non-conference match at Brooklyn College. First serve is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
