NORTH ARLINGTON, N.J. – The Yeshiva University roller hockey team dropped two out of three games, this past weekend. On Saturday night, Yeshiva fell to Northeastern University, 8-2. On Sunday, the Maccabees earned a 7-5 victory over Oswego State, but fell to Endicott College, 6-5. All of the games took place at the I.S.C.A rink.
In the game against Northeastern, the Huskies scored six unanswered goals in the third period to clinch the win. Leading the way for the Maccabees was junior forward
Jake Ratzker, who netted both goals. Sophomore forward
Donny Fuchs had a pair of helpers, while classmate
Moshe Genuth added an assist. Junior goaltender
Joseph Robin made 23 saves in net.
In the win over Oswego, Yeshiva trailed 3-0 at the end of one period of play. The Maccabees finally got on the board in the second period, as a power play goal by Fuchs pulled YU to within two, just 2:57 into the stanza. Just over a minute later, Ratzker produced a goal to cut the Lakers' lead to 3-2. After Oswego extended its lead to 4-2, junior defenseman
Benjy Shulman put the puck into the back of the cage to narrow the Macs' deficit to 4-3, at the 10:52 mark. That would be the score at the end of two periods of play.
Yeshiva rallied for four straight goals in the third period, capped off by an empty netter by junior forward
Ari Drazin, to put the Blue and White up 7-4. Oswego added one more goal, but it was not enough, as Yeshiva hung on for a 7-5 victory.
For the game, Drazin scored two goals and had three assists, while Ratzker added two goals of his own. Genuth and freshman forward
Matthew Carl each registered a pair of helpers, while Fuchs and freshman defenseman
David Soffer each had an assist. In goal, Robin stopped 21 shots to pick up the win.
In the third game against Endicott, Genuth took a feed from Drazin and scored a power play goal, 5:39 into the game, to put the Macs up 1-0. The opening period concluded with the game tied, 1-1. Endicott scored three unanswered goals in the second to take a commanding 4-1 advantage. After falling behind 6-2 in the third, the Maccabees scored three straight goals. It was not enough as the Gulls went on to earn the win, 6-5.
For the game, Genuth and Ratzker each scored two goals, with the former picking up an assist. Soffer added a goal, while Shulman produced a helper. In net, Robin made 28 saves.
Yeshiva will be back in action on Sunday, January 28, for games against Oswego, Syracuse, and Hofstra. All contests will take place at the I.S.C.A. rink.
