OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. – The Yeshiva University women's volleyball team dropped both matches in the Skyline Conference Tri-Match, on the campus of the College at Old Westbury, on Sunday afternoon. The Maccabees dropped the first match to Sarah Lawrence College in straight sets, while falling to the host Panthers, 3-1.
In the opening match against the Gryphons (2-3, 2-0 Skyline), set scores were 25-11, 25-20, and 25-18. Freshman middle blocker

Emily Neckonoff each produced a pair of kills, with the former scoring a service ace. Also producing an ace was senior outside hitter

Yael Ghelman led the team with five assists.

Gavriela Colton led the way for the Maccabees on defense with five digs and tied a match-high with six blocks. Junior libero

Esther Alexander helped neutralize the Gryphons' attack with five digs and produced two assists on offense. Classmate
Ilana Leggiere had three digs, two assists, and a block. Neckonoff had five digs, while Ghelman added four digs of her own. Sieger produced three digs, while sophomore libero

In the match against Old Westbury (4-1, 1-1 Skyline), set scores were 17-25, 25-18, 25-17, and 25-7.
In the first set, a service ace by Colton capped off a 4-0 run by the Maccabees (0-4, 0-3 Skyline) to put the visiting team up, 9-6. Later in the game, back-to-back service aces by Leggiere gave YU a 16-11 advantage. Yeshiva would not allow Old Westbury to generate a rally for the remainder of the set, as the Maccabees won their first game of the season, 25-17.
In the second set, a kill by Teigman began a 5-0 run for Yeshiva, putting the visiting team up, 8-6. Old Westbury went on an 11-2 run to take a commanding lead, 17-10. YU could not catch up as the home team won the second stanza, 25-18, and evened the match, 1-1.
In the third game, a kill by Sieger began a 3-0 run to catapult Yeshiva to an 8-4 advantage. After the Panthers rallied to take a 13-11 lead, Colton slammed home a kill to cap off two unanswered points and tie the match at 13. Old Westbury would shift momentum into its favor by scoring 12 of the game's last 16 points to take a 2-1 advantage in the match.
In the fourth set, the Panthers scored 15 unanswered points to close out the game, 25-7, and clinch the match.
Sieger led all players with a career-high 23 digs. Leggiere also helped anchor the defense with nine digs, produced a block, and scored four service aces, with two kills, on offense.
Ghelman had a team-high 13 assists with eight digs and one service ace. Colton had a team-high seven kills with four digs, one service ace, and a block, while Teigman produced three more kills, had just as many digs, and recorded two blocks. Neckonoff had two kills with three digs. Epstein, Alexander, and senior outside hitter
Batya Schreier each chipped in on defense with a dig each.
Yeshiva will be back in action on Tuesday for a Skyline match against Purchase College, at the ARC Arena, beginning at 7:00 p.m.
