NEWBURGH, N.Y. – The Yeshiva University men's soccer team suffered a Skyline Conference loss to Mount Saint Mary, 2-1, at Kaplan Field on Wednesday evening. Yeshiva now falls to 3-2 overall, and 0-2 in Skyline play.
Mount Saint Mary (3-3, 1-0 Skyline) scored the first two goals of the contest. The first one came in the 25
th minute as Fred Stark headed the ball into the net, off a corner kick by Steven Belenoto, to put the home team up, 1-0. The second goal came in the 64
th minute, as Joey Dolan guided the ball with his head into the back of the cage, off a free kick by Joe Bacalhau, to give the Knights a two-goal advantage.
Yeshiva did not get many scoring opportunities throughout the evening. However, the Maccabees did take advantage of a rare scoring chance, as junior midfielder
Julian Ribak gathered the loose ball in the box and kicked it into the net to cut the deficit in half, in the 69
th minute.
The Maccabees had one final chance to tie the match in the closing minute, but junior defender
Joseph Grobman's shot went high over the net, and Mount Saint Mary went on to earn the Skyline win, 2-1.
The Knights had the edge in shots, 13-3, and corner kicks, 6-3. Sophomore goalkeeper
Max Goldstein made four saves for the Maccabees.
Yeshiva will be back in action on Sunday, for a Skyline Conference match against St. Joseph's Long Island, at Votee Park beginning at 8:00 p.m.
