Women's Soccer Drops Skyline Match to Sarah Lawrence College

NEWARK, N.J. - The Yeshiva University women's soccer team suffered a Skyline Conference loss to Sarah Lawrence College, 5-1, at Rutgers Alumni Field on Sunday afternoon. The Maccabees now fall to a 1-5 record (0-4 Skyline), while the Gryphons rise to 2-2-1 (1-0 Skyline).

The Gryphons would strike first, as Lauren Ashby launched a through ball just over midfield between the goal posts in the 12th minute of the contest. That lead would not be surrendered, as Sarah Lawrence would score again in the 15th, 23nd, and 33nd minutes of the match.

The Maccabees' lone goal would come from junior midfielder Rebecca Rothschild, in the 36th minute, with senior forward Sophia Blumenstrauch being credited with the assist. That 4-1 score would remain until the end of the half.

The Gryphons struck again in the 88th minute, as Ashby scored her third goal of the evening to give the visiting team a four-goal cushion. 5-1 would be the final score.

Sarah Lawrence had the edge in shots, 28-10, and a slight advantage in corner kicks, 4-3.

Freshman forward Gabrielle Aboudi led the offensive attack for Yeshiva with three shots on goal. Blumenstrauch, Rothschild, junior forward Eliana Tuchman, and freshman midfielder Danielle Blicker had one shot on goal apiece, with the latter recording three shots.

In goal, freshman goalkeeper Rivka Lindenblatt started the first half with five saves. Sophomore goalkeeper Gabriella Chutter would stop two shots in the second half of the contest.

The Maccabees will be back in action Tuesday night, as they travel to Newburgh, N.Y., to face Mount Saint Mary College in a Skyline Conference match. The conference contest is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m.
