Men's Soccer Earns Second Straight Shutout Win Over Green Mountain College

POULTNEY, Vt. – Despite the inclement weather, the Yeshiva University men's soccer team put on a strong effort, defeating Green Mountain College by a score of 3-0, at Eagles Game Field on Sunday afternoon. Yeshiva starts off the season with back-to-back shutouts and remains undefeated at 2-0.

"We are starting to click around the field," Yeshiva head coach Josh Pransky said.  "There is a lot of work left to be done to get to where we want to be, but this team has the heart, mentality, and focus to put in the necessary effort to achieve some amazing results."

Yeshiva stormed out of the gate, producing five shots in the first 10 minutes of the contest. In the 14th minute, junior midfielder Eli Richards took control of a pass, from senior defender Benjamin Aboudi and junior forward Julian Ribak, and launched the ball into the upper right corner of the net to put YU on the board.

Yeshiva's defense did not allow the opposition to build momentum as the Eagles (0-1) did not execute a shot attempt during the first stanza. The Maccabees took a 1-0 lead into the intermission.

In the 72nd minute, sophomore midfielder Ilan Slonim took a pass from Ribak and forced the ball into the bottom left corner of the cage, extending Yeshiva's lead to 2-0.

The final goal of the match came unassisted less than seven minutes later by junior midfielder Dan Cohen, from outside the box, as he kicked a liner that sailed over the Eagles' goalkeeper and into the back of the net, to make it 3-0 in favor of the Maccabees. That would be the final score.

For the match, Yeshiva outshot Green Mountain College, 25-4. YU also had the advantage in corner kicks, by an 8-1 margin.

In net, sophomore goalkeeper Max Goldstein stopped a shot to earn his second consecutive shutout.

The Maccabees will host their home opener on Tuesday, against York College in a non-conference match at the Aviator Sports and Events Center, beginning at 9:00 p.m.
