Men's Soccer Edges York to Remain Undefeated

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The Yeshiva University men's soccer team continues it strong start to the season, by defeating York College, 2-1, at the Aviator Sports and Events Center on Tuesday evening. The Maccabees are now 3-0, and have allowed only one goal in the first three matches of the season.

After both teams exchanged quality scoring chances, Yeshiva finally got on the board in the 22nd minute, as junior midfielder Julian Riback took a feed from senior defender Benjamin Aboudi and launched the ball into the back of the net, from 20 yards out, to put YU up 1-0. Junior midfielder Eli Richards was also credited with an assist on the goal.

Just over a minute later, off of feeds from freshman defender Jacobo Simkin-Brecher and Ribak, freshman midfielder Alberto Benhamu quickly drilled the ball past York's goalkeeper to give the home-team a two-goal cushion. That would be the score at the intermission.

In the second half, York (1-1) pulled closer as a goal by Ebrahim Ramos in the 61st minute cut Yeshiva's lead to 2-1. Both teams exchanged quality chances down the stretch, but Yeshiva's defense and sophomore goalkeeper Max Goldstein prevented the Cardinals from tying the match. The Maccabees went on to earn the hard-fought win, 2-1.

In net, Goldstein stopped a season-high eight shots to earn his third victory in as many matches played, so far this season. York had the slight edge in shots, 18-15, and had the advantage in corner kicks, 10-4.

The Maccabees will open the Skyline portion of its schedule on Sunday, as Yeshiva will take on Mount Saint Vincent at Votee Park, beginning at 8:00 p.m.
