KINGS POINT, N.Y. – The Yeshiva University women's volleyball team dropped its Skyline Conference opener to the United States Merchant Marine Academy, in straight sets, at the Liebertz Gymnasium on Tuesday evening. Set scores were 25-18, 25-10, and 25-12.
The Mariners (3-0, 1-0 Skyline) led from wire-to-wire in each set.
Leading the attack for Yeshiva (0-2, 0-1 Skyline) was senior middle blocker
Gavriela Colton, who slammed home two kills, added an assist, and had a match-high three blocks on the defensive end. Classmate
Yael Ghelman produced a kill of her own, with two assists, and four digs. Senior outside hitter
Dalia Sieger added a kill with two digs, while junior middle blocker
Abigail Epstein scored a service ace.
On the defensive side, sophomore libero
Sarah Leah Zians led all players with eight digs. Senior setter
Esther Alexander also chipped in on defense with three digs, two blocks, and added an assist on the offensive end. Senior outside hitter
Ilana Leggiere produced three digs and scored a service ace, while freshman middle blocker
Tehilla Teigman added two blocks and a kill.
Yeshiva will be back in action on Sunday, for a Skyline Conference Tri-Match at the College at Old Westbury. The Maccabees will play the Gryphons of Sarah Lawrence College at 12:00 p.m., and then take on the host Panthers at 2:00 p.m.
