NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Yeshiva University women's volleyball team suffered a non-conference loss to John Jay College, in straight sets, at the Doghouse on Tuesday evening. Set scores were 25-7, 25-12, and 25-9.
The Bloodhounds (10-6) led wire-to-wire in the first game. In the second set, Yeshiva (1-6) jumped out to a 5-3 lead, but John Jay scored three unanswered to jump out in front. Sophomore middle blocker
Tehilla Teigman slammed home a kill to tie it, 6-6. However, the Bloodhounds would eventually go on an 18-5 run to close out the game, and give the home team a commanding 2-0 advantage in the match.
The Maccabees started off the third set strong, as a service ace by senior setter
Batya Schreier and a kill by Teigman gave YU a 2-0 advantage. John Jay tilted momentum into its favor by scoring seven of the set's next eight points to take a 7-3 lead. Yeshiva could not generate a rally long enough to get back into the contest, as the home team went on to win the game and the match.
For the evening, Teigman slammed home four kills and anchored the defense with three digs and two blocks. Schreier had a team-high five assists to go along with two digs. Senior middle blocker
Abigail Epstein added three kills and two digs, while sophomore setter
Julie Chase produced a pair of assists and added a dig on defense. Senior outside hitter
Kayla Gross added a kill and a dig, while sophomore outside hitter
Rebekah Bargraser and senior right side hitter
Ilana Karp each registered a dig.
Yeshiva will battle Mount Saint Mary College, in a Skyline match at the Kaplan Center on Thursday, beginning at 7:00 p.m.
