KINGS POINT, N.Y. – The Yeshiva University women's volleyball team suffered a Skyline Conference loss to the United States Merchant Marine Academy, in straight sets at the Liebertz Gymnasium, on Thursday evening. Set scores were 25-9, 25-8, and 25-6.
The Mariners (14-5, 6-0 Skyline) produced 26 service aces as a team. Taylor Gilberston scored six of those aces to lead USMMA.
Leading the way for the Maccabees (1-10, 0-5 Skyline) was senior setter
Batya Schreier, who produced six assists, added a kill, and anchored the defense with four digs. Sophomore outside hitter
Rebekah Bargraser slammed home three kills, while classmates
Tehilla Teigman and
Julie Chase each had three digs, a kill, and a service ace. Teigman produced a pair of assists. Senior right side hitter
Ilana Karp and classmate
Kayla Gross each had a kill, with the former adding a dig. Senior setter
Ellie Chase had a dig of her own.
The Maccabees will host a Skyline Conference tri-match, on Sunday, at the ARC Arena. Yeshiva will host St. Joseph's Long Island at 11:00 a.m., and then take on Mount Saint Vincent at 3:00 p.m. Sunday is also senior day, as graduating seniors Karp, Gross,
Ellie Chase,
Abigail Epstein,
Melissa Stock, and Schreier will be honored with a ceremony prior to the second match.
