PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Yeshiva University men's soccer team suffered a heartbreaking Skyline loss to Purchase College, 2-0, at the Purchase College Soccer Field on Wednesday evening. Thanks to Farmingdale State earning a tie over Maritime College, Yeshiva has been eliminated from conference postseason contention.
The Panthers' (6-8-2, 3-5-1 Skyline) first goal occurred in the 29
th minute, as Anthony Guzzone received a feed from Ramsey Heitmann and shot the ball below the crossbar and into the net. Purchase went into the half, up 1-0.
Yeshiva (7-7, 5-5 Skyline) had a chance to tie the match in the 55
th minute, but freshman defender
Josef Gad's shot was stopped by Jordan Meade. The Panthers added an insurance tally in the 80
th minute, thanks to Cristian Ishoo tipping in a rebound, to put the home team up by a pair of goals. Guzzone was credited with the assist. Purchase went on to win the match, 2-0.
For the evening, Purchase had the advantage in shots, 19-13, and took three of the four corner kicks. Freshman goalkeeper
Edgar Schottland made nine saves for the Maccabees, while Meade turned aside eight shots to earn the shutout victory. Senior midfielder
Dan Cohen produced two shots on goal.
