NEW YORK, N.Y. – Freshman guard
Ryan Turell, of the Yeshiva University men's basketball team, was named a Divisions II-III Honorable Mention by the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association, on Tuesday. This marks the second time this season that Turell has been honored by the MBWA.
Turell was named the Skyline Conference Player of the Week, on Monday. He led all players with 24 points, while grabbing four rebounds, distributing just as many assists, and blocking two shots, in Yeshiva's key Skyline win at Farmingdale State. The Los Angeles native led all players in scoring with a career-high 31 points, shooting 12-17 in the process, in a conference win over Merchant Marine.
For the season, Turell is ranked No. 1 in the nation in field goals made in Division III with 107, and is tied for third overall across all three NCAA divisions in the same category. The rookie phenom is the leading Division III freshman scorer in the country at 22.8 points per game, which is fifth across the three NCAA divisions among all freshman, right behind Duke's R.J. Barrett.
