BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The Yeshiva University men's volleyball team suffered a non-conference loss to Pratt Institute, 3-1, at the Pratt ARC on Tuesday evening. Set scores were 25-17, 21-25, 23-25, and 23-25.
In the opening set, Yeshiva (0-2) fell behind 10-8. The Macs responded by scoring seven unanswered points to take a 15-10 advantage. Highlighted in that run was a kill each from junior outside hitter
Chaim Aryeh Rubin and sophomore middle blocker
Yosef Ajami, as well as a service ace by the former. The duo struck again, combining for back-to-back kills to extend YU's lead to 17-12. Later in the game, the Macs had a set-point opportunity. The Cannoneers (2-3) scored three unanswered points to pull to within seven, at 24-17. Rubin halted Pratt's momentum and clinched the set by slamming home a kill.
In the second game, junior outside hitter
Amitai Miller produced back-to-back service aces to give YU a 4-1 lead. The home team answered with an 11-3 run to take a 12-6 advantage. A kill by sophomore middle blocker
Joshua Rosenberg highlighted a 5-0 run by Yeshiva, tying the match at 13-13. A 5-2 run by Pratt gave the home team a lead it would not surrender for the remainder of the game. Freshman outside hitter
Joseph Sulaymanov's kill pulled Yeshiva to within two, at 23-21. However, Pratt scored the last two points to win the game, and tie the match 1-1.
Ajami slammed home a kill in the third set to tie it up, 7-7. Later in the game, Rubin produced a kill to tie it at 13-13. However, the Cannoneers responded by scoring five unanswered points to take an 18-13 advantage. Down 23-17, Yeshiva went on a 6-1 run to get the game close, but Pratt scored the 25
th point to hang on and win the set and go up 2-1 in the match.
Yeshiva came storming out of the gate in the fourth set, jumping out to an 8-0 lead. Freshman opposite hitter
Isaac Pomerance scored four service aces during Yeshiva's hot start. However, Pratt chipped away and pulled to within five, at 14-9. Rosenberg slammed home a kill to halt momentum, but Pratt scored six straight to tie the game. After Yeshiva regained the lead, 18-17, Pratt scored three unanswered points to take a 20-18 advantage. After falling behind, 24-20, Yeshiva scored three unanswered points, highlighted by a kill each from Ajami and sophomore setter
Derek Orenshein to pull to within one. However, Pratt once again was able to score the 25
th point to clinch the set and the match.
For the evening, Rubin anchored the defense with a match-high 16 digs, while adding seven kills on offense. Orenshein added eight kills with four assists and five digs, while Rosenberg had five kills with seven digs. Ajami slammed home four kills, anchored the defense with five digs, and scored two service aces. Sulaymanov slammed home three kills with eight digs, while Pomerance had a team-high 18 assists to go along with five digs. Freshman outside hitter

Yeshiva will return to the friendly confines of the Max Stern Athletic Center, on Thursday, for a non-conference match against the City College of New York. First serve is scheduled for 8:00 p.m.
