HARRISON, N.Y. – The Yeshiva University baseball team opened up Skyline Conference play with a pair of losses to Maritime College, at Silver Lake Park, on Friday afternoon. YU fell in the first game, 13-0, while dropping the second contest by a score of 13-3.
In the opening game, Maritime scored five runs in the first two innings to take a commanding lead. Chris Deddo put the Privateers (7-4, 2-0 Skyline) on the board with an RBI triple in the opening inning. The big blow came in the fifth, as Zach Baber drilled a two-run homer to left center, extending Maritime's lead to 13-0. That would be the final score.
For the game, Brady Dolan picked up the win on the mound for the Privateers, striking out 11 Yeshiva batters in 5.2 shutout innings pitched. For the Maccabees, sophomore pitcher
Alex Malech pitched 2.2 shutout innings in relief. Senior shortstop
Shmuli Goldis produced a single and stole a base, while sophomore center fielder

Zachary Baly each drew a walk.
In the second game, Matt Costleigh produced an RBI double to left field to put Maritime on the board, in the opening inning. The Maccabees would counter in the home half of the frame. With Goldis on first and one out, junior left fielder
Aryeh Salovey doubled to left center, scoring Goldis to tie the game, 1-1. Salovey would score thanks to an RBI groundout by senior right fielder
Mordechai Cohen, giving Yeshiva a 2-1 advantage.
Senior pitcher
Chaim Nosson Rosenberg held Maritime scoreless in the top of the second. The Privateers would even the game up in the third, thanks to a sacrifice fly by Joe Screrra. Maritime's lineup would eventually break out, scoring three runs each in the fourth and sixth innings, as well as four in the seventh, to take a commanding 13-2 lead.
Yeshiva would not go down without a fight, as sophomore third baseman
Mordy Kirsch produced an RBI single, scoring Rosenberg from first, for YU's third run. Baly drilled a single of his own to keep the rally going, but Keegan McDonald struck out the last two batters to clinch the sweep for the defending Skyline Conference champions.
For the game, Maritime's pitcher Kevin Dunn was credited with the win, striking out six batters in three shutout innings of relief.
For the Maccabees, Goldis went 2-for-4 to extend the program record with 79 career hits. Salovey and Cohen each drew a walk for YU.
Yeshiva will host Mount Saint Vincent on Sunday, for a Skyline Conference double-header, at Palisades Park. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
