CHESTER, N.Y. – The Yeshiva University softball team dropped both ends of its Skyline Conference opening double-header to Mount Saint Mary College, at the Rock Sports Park, on Sunday afternoon. The scores were 14-0 and 9-0. Yeshiva only produced one hit during the two games.
In the opening contest, Bridget Bennett pitched a no-hitter, striking out 14 YU batters to earn the complete-game shutout victory. The Knights (4-2, 4-0 Skyline) scored eight runs in the opening inning and never looked back.
For the Maccabees (1-6, 0-2 Skyline), junior pitcher
Samantha Cohen pitched a complete game, but took the loss. At the plate, junior catcher
Sarah Hiller reached base in both of her plate appearances via a walk. Senior center fielder
Ellie Chase also drew a walk.
In game two, Mount Saint Mary once again had a big first inning by scoring five runs in the opening frame. Morgan O'Neill picked up the complete-game victory for the Knights in the circle, striking out 13 YU batters, and giving up just one hit, in five shutout innings pitched. Chase provided Yeshiva's lone hit with a single to leadoff the game. Senior pitcher
Elisa Alweis pitched a complete game, but suffered the loss.
Yeshiva will return to the friendly confines of Fordham University on Tuesday, for a non-conference double-header against Baruch College. The first pitch will be thrown at 6:00 p.m.
