PATCHOGUE, N.Y. – The Yeshiva University men's volleyball team opened up conference play by competing in a Skyline Tri-Match, on the campus of St. Joseph's Long Island, on Sunday afternoon. The Maccabees fell to the Panthers of Purchase College and the host Golden Eagles in straight sets.
In the match against Purchase (2-6, 1-1 Skyline), set scores were 25-14, 25-22, and 25-14. Leading the way for the Maccabees was junior outside hitter
Chaim Aryeh Rubin, who slammed home six kills, produced just as many digs, and had three blocks. Classmate
Amitai Miller anchored the defense with eight digs, while freshman setter
Ariel Boutehsaz produced six digs, had just as many assists, scored two service aces, and had one block. Sophomore setter
Derek Orenshein slammed home three kills, with two aces, and an assist, while freshman outside hitter
Joseph Sulaymanov had two kills, four digs, two blocks, and an assist. Freshman middle blocker
Jonathan Apsan contributed on defense with six digs and had a kill on the attack, while junior libero
Gavriel Hizami produced four digs. Sophomore middle blocker
Joshua Rosenberg had a dig of his own.
Against St. Joseph's Long Island (10-6, 2-0 Skyline) set scores were 25-7, 25-9, and 25-9. Miller had two kills and just as many digs for the Maccabees (1-7, 0-2 Skyline). Boutehsaz had a team-high five assists, while senior middle blocker
David Fattakhov produced a kill and a dig.
Yeshiva will return to the friendly confines of the Max Stern Athletic Center on Wednesday, for a non-conference match against John Jay College, beginning at 7:00 p.m.
