BRONX, N.Y. – The Yeshiva University softball team dropped both ends of its Skyline Conference doubleheader to Farmingdale State (26-3 and 12-1), at Fordham University, on Monday evening.
In the opening game, the Rams (7-12, 4-0 Skyline) drilled three home runs. Julia Walpole hit a pair of three-run homers, while Jaxie Collard hit a grand slam. Farmingdale State scored 14 runs in the third inning, and nine in the fourth, to put the game out of reach.
Yeshiva (1-10, 0-4 Skyline) did all of its damage in the bottom of the fourth. With the bases loaded, and two outs, senior center fielder
Ellie Chase ripped a bases-clearing triple to center field. That would be all the Maccabees would get, as Farmingdale State earned the convincing win.
For the Macs, sophomore shortstop
Basya Goldstein went 2-for-2, with a double, a run scored, and a walk. Junior catcher
Sarah Hiller and freshman designated player
Malky Perlberger each drew a walk and scored a run, while junior right fielder
Leah Feder also reached base via a walk.
In the circle, Walpole picked up the complete-game win for FSC, striking out eight YU batters and giving up just three hits in the process. Junior pitcher
Samantha Cohen also pitched a complete game for the Maccabees, but took the loss.
In game two, the Rams scored 10 runs over the course of the first three innings and never looked back. Yeshiva's lone run came in the home half of the fourth inning, as Hiller singled up the middle to score Goldstein. It would not be enough, as Farmingdale State earned the sweep.
For Yeshiva, Goldstein drilled a triple prior to being driven in by Hiller. Perlberger and Feder each produced a single, while freshman third baseman
Chana Weinberg drew a walk.
In the circle, Collard earned the win for the Rams, pitching three shutout innings with three strikeouts. For the Maccabees, senior pitcher
Elisa Alweis went five innings but was dealt with the loss.
It is a quick turnaround for Yeshiva, as the Maccabees will travel to Brooklyn to take on the Bulldogs of Brooklyn College. First pitch of the non-conference doubleheader will be thrown at 5:00 p.m.
