BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – The Yeshiva University softball team dropped both ends of its Skyline Conference double-header to Sarah Lawrence College (9-1, 8-0), at Mary Levine Field, on Sunday afternoon.
In game one, the Gryphons (13-9, 4-4 Skyline) scored three runs within the first three innings, and then put up a six-spot in the bottom of the fourth to earn the win. Yeshiva's (1-16, 0-8 Skyline) lone run was thanks to an RBI single by freshman designated player
Malky Perlberger that scored first-year shortstop
Basya Goldstein, in the top of the third.
For the game, freshman left fielder
Tehilla Teigman reached base with a single, while Perlberger drew a walk. In the circle, Mikayla Cunningham earned the complete-game victory for Sarah Lawrence College, striking out five batters in the process. Junior pitcher
Samantha Cohen also pitched a complete game, but took the loss.
In game two, Sarah Lawrence scored a pair of runs in the first inning to take an early lead. Down by three in the top of the fourth, the Maccabees threatened as sophomore third baseman
Gabi Chutter reached base on an error. Junior catcher
Sarah Hiller followed with a single. After Chutter stole third, Yeshiva had runners at the corners with two outs. However, YU could not push a run across before making the third out.
Senior center fielder
Ellie Chase led off the fifth inning with a single, but the Macs could not get the run in. Sarah Lawrence put the game out of reach with four runs in the bottom of the sixth, to clinch the win.
In the circle, Delaney Parker earned a complete-game victory, striking out eight YU batters in six shutout innings pitched. Senior pitcher
Elisa Alweis pitched 5.1 innings to take the loss. At the plate, senior first baseman
Batya Schreier reached base via a walk.
Yeshiva will be back in action on Tuesday, with a non-conference double-header at the University of Valley Forge. First pitch is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
