Softball Team Drops Pair of Skyline Games to Old Westbury

BRONX, N.Y. – The Yeshiva University softball team dropped both ends of its Skyline Conference doubleheader to the College at Old Westbury (11-2, 15-5), at Fordham University, on Tuesday evening.

The Panthers (12-10, 5-9 Skyline) produced eight runs in the second inning to take a commanding lead. In the bottom of the fifth, junior shortstop Basya Goldstein picked up an RBI on an infield single for Yeshiva's second run of the game, but it would not be enough.

For the game, Goldstein also scored a run. Freshman designated player Malky Perlberger reached base with a single. In the circle, Jessica Livingston earned a complete game victory by giving up just one earned run and striking out eight YU batters. Junior pitcher Samantha Cohen also pitched a complete game, but took the loss.

In game two, Old Westbury scored six runs over the course of the first three innings to take the lead. The Maccabees (1-22, 0-12 Skyline) were able to score five runs in the bottom of the third, to pull to within one. Highlighted in that frame was a two-run double down the right field line, off the bat of sophomore third baseman Gabi Chutter.
The Panthers responded with four runs in the fourth, and five runs in the fifth, to clinch the sweep.

For the second end of the twin-bill, Goldstein once again produced a single and scored a run. Senior first baseman Batya Schreier reached base with a triple, while junior catcher Sarah Hiller drew a walk and scored a run. Chutter, freshman left fielder Tehilla Teigman, and freshman second baseman Chana Boltax each crossed home plate once.

In the circle, Amanda Fucci gave up no earned runs and struck out five YU batters to pick up the complete-game victory. Senior pitcher Elisa Alweis pitched five innings to take the loss.

Yeshiva will be back in action on Friday, for a non-conference doubleheader at the College of New Rochelle. First pitch at Flowers Park will be thrown at 11:00 a.m.
