NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – The Yeshiva University softball team earned a hard-fought split against the College of New Rochelle, at Flowers Park, on Friday afternoon. The Maccabees (2-23) earned a thrilling victory in the opening game, 11-10. The Blue Angels (19-9) responded with a win in game two, 13-0.
Yeshiva struck early with five runs in the opening inning of game one, to take a commanding lead, before New Rochelle got up to bat. The big play in the frame came off the bat of freshman second baseman
Chana Boltax, as she drilled a three-run inside-the-park home run to left, giving YU a 5-0 advantage.
After New Rochelle scored a run in the bottom of the second to pull to within four, Yeshiva responded in the next frame, thanks to an RBI single by senior center fielder
Ellie Chase, to extend the Macs' lead to 7-1. The Blue Angels would not go down without a fight, as the home team scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the third, and just as many in the fourth, to pull to within two.

Sarah Hiller propelled YU to a three-run inning to increase its lead to 10-5.
In the top of the seventh, with runners on first and second and two outs, sophomore third baseman
Gabi Chutter drilled an RBI double to left center field, to extend Yeshiva's lead to 11-6.
New Rochelle would rally in the home half of the seventh. With the bases loaded and two outs, Victoria Holmes cleared the bases, and came around to score on as an inside-the-park grand slam, to shrink Yeshiva's lead to 11-10. The next batter, Gabryella Hay, reached base with a single, and then stole second. With the tying run in scoring position, and the game-winning run at the plate, senior pitcher
Elisa Alweis got the opposing batter to pop up to Chutter at third, to clinch the victory for the Maccabees.
Yeshiva's lineup produced 10 hits and reached base with 11 walks. Chase went 3-for-4 with three runs scored and earned a base on balls. Chutter went 2-for-4 with a walk and a run scored, while Goldstein scored a run on a pair of hits. Hiller drew three walks, while senior first baseman
Batya Schreier scored two runs, produced one hit, and drew a walk. Boltax added a single, while freshman right fielder

Sarah Elspas scored a run and drew a pair of walks. Alweis scored a run and picked up a walk of her own.
In the circle, Alweis earned a complete-game victory, while Hay took the loss.
In game two, New Rochelle scored nine runs in the third to jump out to an 11-0 lead and never looked back. For the game, Samantha Gutierrez, Hay, and Alexandria Czarkowsky each lined an inside-the-park home run, with Gutierrez's blast being a grand slam. In the circle, Lexus Salmon earned the complete-game shutout victory.
For the Maccabees, Goldstein and Elspas each reached base with a single, with the former stealing a base. It was Elspas' first hit of her collegiate career. Schreier reached base once. Junior pitcher
Samantha Cohen pitched a complete game, but took the loss.
Yeshiva will be back in action on Sunday, for a Skyline Conference doubleheader against St. Joseph's College Brooklyn, at Fordham University. First pitch is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. It is Senior Day, as graduating seniors Schreier, Alweis, and Chase will be honored by Yeshiva University.
