Strong First Half Lifts Old Westbury Past Women's Soccer

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. – The Yeshiva University women's soccer team dropped its Skyline Conference opener to the College at Old Westbury, 3-0, at Panther Park on Friday afternoon. The Panthers advance to 1-0 in the Skyline (2-4 overall), while the Maccabees drop to 0-1 in conference play (0-4 overall).

Old Westbury scored all three of its goals in the opening half. Cara Normile opened the scoring for the home team, less than five minutes into the contest. The Panthers extended their lead to two, thanks to Brianna Williams' breakaway goal off a feed from Gabby Lamanno, in the 24th minute. Just over seven minutes later, Keleyna Romoleroux executed a breakaway goal of her own to cap off the scoring for Old Westbury.

In the second half, junior goalkeeper Gabriella Chutter entered the match and kept the Maccabees in the contest by stopping all nine shots she faced. It would not be enough, as Old Westbury went on to earn the Skyline win.

For the afternoon, Alexa Higgins made two saves in net to earn a shutout victory. Sophomore goalkeeper Rivka Lindenblatt started the match for Yeshiva and made five saves. Senior forward Nicole Bick and sophomore defender Elizabeth Pavel each produced a shot on goal.

Yeshiva will host Mount Saint Mary College, in a Skyline matchup at Votee Park, on Sunday evening. The contest is scheduled to begin at 8:30 p.m.
