NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Yeshiva University men's soccer team suffered a hard-fought Skyline loss to Maritime College, 3-2, at the Aviator Sports and Events Center on Thursday evening. The Maccabees fall to 2-1 in the conference, and 4-3 overall, while the Privateers advance to 1-0 in the Skyline, and 7-2 in the season as a whole.
Maritime struck first in the 34
th minute, as Joe Gino rifled a shot that sailed below the crossbar and into the net, from just outside the box, to give the visiting team a 1-0 lead. Later in the half, Yeshiva drew a foul inside the box and was awarded a penalty kick. Freshman forward
Jonah Beberman took advantage by guiding the ball past the goalkeeper, and into the net, to even the match. The tally was Beberman's eighth of the season. Both teams went into the intermission tied at a goal apiece.
It was déjà vu in the second half, as the Privateers once again committed a foul from inside the box. This time, it was sophomore forward
Alberto Benhamu benefiting from the visiting team's mistake, as he successfully converted Yeshiva's second penalty kick of the evening to give the Maccabees a 2-1 advantage, in the 59
th minute.
Maritime would counter just over 12 minutes later, as Andrew Higgins tipped the ball into the back of the cage, off a rebound from inside the box, to even the match at 2-2. In the 81

Edgar Schottland to allow Maritime to regain the lead, 3-2.
Yeshiva had chances to tie the match, but could not capitalize on the equalizer, as Maritime went on to earn the key conference road win.
For the evening, the Maccabees outshot the Privateers, 13-11, but Maritime had the slight edge in shots on goal, 9-8. Schottland turned aside six shots, while his counterpart Michael Rodriguez made just as many saves. The Privateers had the advantage in corner kicks, 9-2.
Yeshiva will return to action on Friday, October 5, for a Skyline match at Mount Saint Vincent. The contest is scheduled to begin at 12:00 p.m.
