NEW YORK – The Yeshiva University women's volleyball team dropped a pair of contests in a tri-match at the ARC Arena on Sunday afternoon. YU fell to Skyline rival St. Joseph's College Long Island, 3-0 (25-16, 25-8, 25-7), and were defeated by Baruch College in straight sets (25-8, 25-3, 25-4).
In the opening game against the Golden Eagles (14-11, 6-2 Skyline), the Maccabees (0-16, 0-10 Skyline) jumped out to an early 6-2 advantage. SJCLI rallied to take a 12-10 lead. YU answered as a kill by senior right side hitter
Batya Schreier sparked a mini-rally to tie the contest at 12 points apiece. However, the visiting team took control from that point on by generating a 13-4 run to earn a convincing win in the first set. The Golden Eagles dominated the second and third stanzas to earn the Skyline victory.
For the contest, senior middle blocker
Tehilla Teigman led the way for the Maccabees with four kills, just as many digs, and two blocks. Schreier had a strong match with five digs, while adding a pair of kills. Junior setter
Julie Chase registered three assists, while sophomore middle blocker
Rena Kahn added a pair of helpers of her own. First-year libero
Rachelli Benoff produced a kill, one service ace, and a dig.
In the match against Baruch College (16-8, 5-1 CUNYAC), Schreier anchored the defense with six digs, while junior outside hitter
Rebekah Bargraser and Kahn each generated three digs. Benoff added a pair of digs of her own.
Yeshiva will host Mount Saint Mary College, in a league match, on Tuesday evening. First serve at the ARC Arena is scheduled for 8:00 p.m.
