Stauber Tallies Overtime Goal to Lift Men's Soccer Over Mount Saint Vincent

EDGEWATER, N.J. – Junior forward Zachary Stauber found the inside of the net, during the 94th minute, to propel the Yeshiva University men's soccer team to a thrilling 2-1 overtime victory over Skyline rival College of Mount Saint Vincent, at Veteran's Park Field on Tuesday evening. The victory in extra time bumps Yeshiva's record to 3-10-1 for the season and 1-9-1 in Skyline play. The loss eliminates CMSV from Skyline postseason contention, as the Dolphins drop to 3-11-1 overall and 2-6-1 in league play.

It was Stauber's third goal, and second game-winner, of the season. The Hollywood, Fla. native now has eight points for the year.

"The team had some very good performances recently where we deserved more than we got so it was great to see the boys get the win today," Yeshiva University Head Coach J.J. Davidson said.

Each team had multiple chances to score the first goal in the early stages of the match. Yeshiva finally capitalized in the 22nd minute, as freshman midfielder Jess Rom dribbled the ball down the left wing and crossed it to junior forward Isaac Bendahan, who launched the ball into the net from the right side to give YU a 1-0 advantage. The Maccabees dominated play for the remainder of the half but could not extend the lead before intermission.

CMSV had an opportunity to tie the match in the 65th minute, but freshman defender Anthony Lima's shot was denied by junior goalkeeper Sagi Badash. The visiting team broke through, over a minute later, as freshman midfielder Adam Maryniewski crossed the ball into the box and senior midfielder Augustine Ameruso was there to tip it into the wide-open net to even the match at one goal apiece, with 34:13 remaining in regulation time.

It looked bleak for the Maccabees throughout the second half, as the Dolphins kept generating scoring chance after scoring chance. Mount Saint Vincent's best opportunity to take the lead occurred during the 75th minute when junior midfielder George Escuza shot the ball from deep inside the box, but Badash blocked the ball from going into the net. Escuza gathered the rebound during the scramble in the box and shot it again, but this time was stopped by a sea of Yeshiva defenders.

The Dolphins earned four corner kick opportunities during the final five minutes of regulation time, but Yeshiva's strong defense did not allow the opposition to generate a shot on target. Regulation time ended with score tied, 1-1.

Less than four minutes into the first overtime period, sophomore forward Ethan Fettaya wedged the ball horizontally to Stauber, who dribbled the ball down the right wing and lined a shot from 25 yards out. The ball deflected off the goalkeeper and rolled inside the right post to end the match and clinch the Skyline victory for the Maccabees.

For the evening, Mount Saint Vincent had the edge in shots, 19-16. The Maccabees withstood 15 corner kicks by the Dolphins.

In net, Badash made seven saves to earn the win for the Macs. Senior goalkeeper Padelis Atrinidis turned aside four shots for the Dolphins.

It was senior night as graduating seniors Simon Schoen, Shlomo Amsellem, Jacopo Pagliara, and Ilan Slonim were honored with a ceremony prior to the start of the match.

Yeshiva will conclude the regular season with a non-conference match against CCNY, at Votee Park, on Sunday, November 10. The contest is scheduled to begin at 8:15 p.m.
